Protected zones

Truly magnificent diverse nature of Montenegro is what makes this small country special. Though there is a lot to be done on its path towards truly sustainable destination, one cannot argue against its stunning beauty. And the essence of its beauty and diversity is in its five national parks, scattered throughout the country. And in recent years we also have parks of nature, other areas of outstanding value under protection. Five National Parks of Montenegro cover 7.7 % of the territory of Montenegro. Each national park is unique, with specific natural and cultural heritage.

Explore the National Park Durmitor and the deepest canyon in Europe, which is on UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage list. Or The Skadar Lake National Park, which has the status of a significant ornithological area (IBA) since 1989, and in 1995 it was registered to the World Wetlands of International Importance (RAMSAR). Biogradska gora, one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe, and a breathtaking glacier lake in its center. Or Prokletije, or Accursed Mountains, with ominous name, already telling you some special sites are hiding there.

Many of our rural households provide services within or just next to our protected zones, which gives you the opportunity to explore the riches of Montenegrin nature.
